As Bill Brown Ford grew over the years into one of the highest volume Ford dealerships in the country, their service department found themselves operating out of a drab (and still in operation) repair garage. The final phase of a three-part expansion scheme challenged the design team to completely overhaul the existing service center garage and provide a sleek, modern, and comfortable customer experience. Working within the bounds of the existing garage, effort was concentrated on staging visitors through the large open space; from entry to seating, seating to concierge, concierge to service advisors, and on until a porter returns the car through the drop-off lanes. The drop-off lanes occupy the space directly between the existing service center and a new service garage (Phase 1 of the expansion plan). Separating the drop-off lanes from the customer waiting areas is a large glass wall which curves dramatically into the customer area. More dramatic still are the series of entry canopies added to exterior of the drop-off lanes which double as signage. Large aluminum clad boxes hover above the overhead doors, capped with a low shed roof plane that layers overtop of the existing building. Suspended from the canopy columns are three internally illuminated blade signs. Throughout the space, low screen walls were used to define seating areas and refine the large scale while keeping it as light and open as possible. A simple material pallet of glass, maple veneer, metal reveals, and bold blue accents was chosen for similar reasons. The resulting space is one which pays tribute to the unique aesthetic of Bill Brown Ford in a refined and comfortably modern way
